Enet Group partners with The Hope Foundation to raise €70,000 for Kolkata (Calcutta) street children

Press release
19th Nov 2019

The Enet Group has announced a new, two-year partnership with The Hope Foundation, a Cork-based charity that works to improve the quality of life for street and slum children in India. The partnership, officially commencing in January 2020, will see collaboration on a series of fundraising events, with the aim of raising €70,000 for the charity.

The first event will take place on Valentine’s night, 14th February 2020 when the team will hold an exclusive private dining experience hosted by celebrity chef Richard Corrigan at his Virginia Park Lodge venue in Virginia, Co. Cavan. The event is eagerly awaited and is already expected to be an amazing night of food craic!

All monies raised will support the running of a boy’s home in Kolkata. The funding will be directly targeted to the Punorjibon (‘New Beginnings’) Rehabilitation Home, which caters for solvent-addicted children, many of whom have been victims of daily torture, domestic violence, or been abandoned. In response, the home provides education, healthcare and nutrition services to the boys in its care, as well as vocational training – with the ultimate aim of rehabilitating and then reintegrating the boys into mainstream society.

Maureen Forrest, Founder and Honorary Director of The Hope Foundation, said: “We are delighted that the Enet Group have entered into this partnership with The Hope Foundation. Every euro and cent raised will be targeted at the running of the Punorjibon Rehabilitation Home and will allow us to be there for children who need it, when they need it the most. On the back of this partnership, we’re looking forward to delivering high impact services that provide education, healthcare and nutrition and we are confident that this will go a long way to reintegrating the boys into mainstream society, giving them an opportunity to create a sustainable and joyful future.”

The Enet Group comprises of Enet, Ireland’s largest wholesale, open-access network provider, as well as AirSpeed Telecom, a leading provider of high-performance telecommunications products and services to enterprise, public sector and medium sized businesses. The Group employs 130 people across offices in Dublin and Limerick. This partnership is the first in a series of initiatives between Enet and AirSpeed and local, community-based partners as the Group renews its focus on corporate social activity.

Commenting on the launch of the initiative, Peter McCarthy, Enet Group CEO, said: “The Hope Foundation does fantastic work in supporting vulnerable children, their families and communities, and in tackling the underlying causes of violence, trafficking and neglect by providing much-needed shelter, education and rehabilitation services.

“Our business and its shareholder take our social responsibilities seriously, and we’re delighted to have this opportunity to work alongside one of Munster’s most successful and longest-serving charities. Together we’ll be making a real difference to these children, helping them to achieve their full potential.”

Recently, Maureen Forrest won The Graham Norton Gin Inspiring Charity Leader Award for 2019. The award recognises Maureen as one of Ireland’s most inspiring women and recognises the excellent results that The Hope Foundation have achieved over the last 20 years of operation.
