Boost For Internet Access

Press release
19th Oct 2007

Internet broadband is to be rolled out across the country as a result of a government commitment to increase spending on energy, Communications Minister Eamon Ryan said yesterday.

The minister said that he had secured a rise of nearly €3.5m in current expenditure and €6.5m in capital expenditure for his department in the 2008 estimates. This would mean the rollout of the new national broadband scheme, the continuation of the metropolitan area network programme and continued investment in innovation through the National Digital Research Centre and Digital Hub Development Agency.

The minister said other vital energy programmes, such as the greener homes scheme, would continue also.
